The reality of child sex abuse images; here are the sordid statistics:
NCMEC operates the CyberTipline®, which I initially oversaw a national mechanism for the public and electronic service providers to report instances of suspected child sexual exploitation.
In 2021, the CyberTipline received 29.3 million reports, up from 21.7 million reports in 2020. An increase of 35%.
Of those 29.3 million images 29,309,106 Apparent child sexual abuse material.
Since its inception in 1998, the CyberTipline has received more than 87 million reports. And, to further NCMEC’s mission and help reduce proliferation, NCMEC has sent more than 372,000 notifications to electronic service providers regarding publicly accessible websites (URLs) on which suspected child sexual abuse images appeared.
NCMEC’s Child Victim Identification Program®, which helps to locate and recover child victims depicted in sexually abusive images, has reviewed more than 325 million images and videos and law enforcement has identified more than 19,200 child victims. A small fraction identified.
NCMEC has assisted with more than 187,000 requests related to helping locate non compliant sex offenders.
